One Thousand Stories In Every Bottle.
Our Story...
What can happen when...
three friends reunite at their Harbour Island home after a long absence? What happened for us was the birth of a great rum, a distinctive brand and an amazing amount of passion. Right time , Right juice , Right place & the Right brand.Hence One Drop Rum was born in January 2018. The thread that connected the 3 friends - Ithalia Johnson (singer / songwriter) , Joe Elison (music promoter / tour manager) & Toby Tyler (musician / rum blender) music connected us all and there was an atmosphere of new beginnings and the makings of a new rum - it just made sense at that moment in time. Our fourth partner, and fellow long time resident of Harbour island , Dan Kellogg , joined us a few months later bringing the last couple of pieces needed to complete the One Drop Rum Team.
Heart & Soul
Every Rum has a unique makeup, but not every rum has a heart and soul that can only be derived from the palate of an artist. Our Soul is our rum which has been created by the celebrated palate of master blender Toby Tyler.
Our Heart is our company's foundation: Honesty, simplicity and brand loyalty
With a background of sourcing different rums from around the Caribbean and South America - what I have put together for One Drop Rum show’s what is possible with these different distilled spirits from different countries - with 20 years of experience working and creating many different blends , I understand the unique ins & outs of a successful blend and brand - unique blends using juice from many different Caribbean destinations allows us a huge playground that brings interesting blends to bottle.
10 Year Old
The aroma has notes of apricot, mango and candied tropical fruit its well balanced with a hint of a dried-fruit.
This is elegant , smooth with a medium body— and the best part is the finish at 86% proof - a smooth, round and controlled finish that almost reminds of a Whisky.86 Proof - 43%ABV
Cactus & Cane
A blend of 7 year Pot & Column still finished in Tequila barrels.
Pour this over ice and have a sip. What do you taste? The initial taste is a dried fruit and classic Jamaican funk. The finish is the beautiful dance between tequila notes and the remnants of the Jamaican funk, challenging yet extremely unique! Celebrated Cactus & Cane’s ability to crossover into the Rum world and also the Tequila world - use in a classic Manhattan or Old Fashioned
101 proof - 50.5% ABV.5 Year Old Gold
A blend of 5 year old Pot & Column still - has the ability to be enjoyed neat for a relatively young rum. Medium body with light vanilla and caramel on the palate , clean & balanced with a delicate barrel note finish.
80 proof - 40% ABV.Critically Acclaimed.
With a pedigree of excellence, One Drop takes things to a new level.
The critics agree...
REVIEW: CACTUS & CANE
It’s no secret that using the barrels that once held other spirits to give different personalities to rum is an increasingly prominent trend in the rum world. And while we’ve seen all kinds of finishes, from port to sherry to Highland whisky, there’s one spirit that has not thus far given its personality to any rum: tequila. But master blender Toby Tyler, the man behind the celebrated Afrohead Rum — and, more recently, the Jamaica by way of Harbour Island Bahamas rum called One Drop, has pushed the envelope again with a new expression finished in Tequila barrels. It’s called, fittingly, “Cactus & Cane.” It’s a limited edition One Drop that takes seven-year-old Jamaican rum and sends it for nearly eight months in ex-tequila barrels. It’s a seriously robust rum, with the proof pushed to 101 and the result is, well, something totally new in the rum world. So what’s it like? The rum has a pale golden color, with an aroma dominated by honey, anise and white pepper. And for even a seasoned rum aficionado, it takes a few moments to understand this tequila-rum dance. You can taste the One Drop, but this Mexican-Jamaican symphony quickly heats up, the tequila whispering at you as high-proof Jamaican juice hits you right in the face. Yes, it’s One Drop, but it’s gotten even funkier, spicier and bolder. It becomes a full-on jam session, resulting in a manifestation of rum you’ve never experienced before. If a rum can be called rock and roll, it’s this, something bursting with personality. It’s different, unique, and it marries tequila’s troublemaking character with the drinkability and power of rum. It’s an inspired expression — and something we want to see more of.
REVIEW: ONE DROP 10 YEAR OLD
(Caribbean Journal )
When it made its debut four years ago, Harbour Island’s Afrohead rum sent a shockwave through the industry.
Its superb design — and its drinkability — were a refreshing addition to the Caribbean’s rum offering.
It was bold, it was cool — and, unlike so many rum launches in recent years – it wasn’t trite or cheesy.
It was just what the rum industry needed — and still needs more of — a reminder to consumers that this is a sophisticated, premium spirit — not simply a mundane mixing partner for Coca-Cola.
Now, the man behind Afrohead, master blender Toby Tyler, has launched his newest project — and it’s another important new rum.
This is One Drop Rum, a rum hand-bottled in Harbour Island in The Bahamas that is a blend of 10- and 12-year-old Jamaican rum.
The design is totally different from Afrohead, but it’s equally cool, with a tall, round-edged flat bottle (one that reminds of some of our favorite bottlings of Martinique’s Rhum Saint James), with a simple, sleek black-and-white logo and a tall, pouring-friendly neck.
So what is it like?
The aroma is a delight, with notes of apricot, mango and candied tropical fruit (it’s a delicious aroma that almost, remarkably, reminds of a rhum agricole).
The flavor profile is marked by buttery apricot, pure vanilla bean and even a hint of stone fruit — with wonderful balance and a hint of a dried-fruit edge.
This is a medium-bodied, velvety rum — and the best part is the finish.
While too many rums from Jamaica simply punch you in the face with their over-the-top funkiness, One Drop is a welcome departure — its got real drinkability.
It’s funky, yes — but it’s also elegant and smooth, and the 43-degree bottling makes for an even smoother, rounder, controlled finish that almost reminds of a Whisky.
It’s that happiest of results for a new rum: it isn’t just a cool bottle — this is a terrific Caribbean rum, one of the best we’ve tried all year.
REVIEW: BEST NEW RUM 2018; ONE DROP, HARBOUR ISLAND , BAHAMAS.
(Caribbean Journal - December 2018)
Harbour Island isn't like other places in the Caribbean - or even in The Bahamas for that matter. It's a bit like an English speaking St. Barts, chic but carefree, charming but unpretentious. And it's also an island that loves it's rum. That was how the island's Afrohead Rum was born a few years back - and now Toby Tyler, the master blender behind Afrohead, is at it again, this time with a blend of 10 year old and 12 year old Jamaican juice. The result is a rum (hand bottled on Harbour Island) that is delightfully drinkable, with a fruit forward flavor profile and a funky but velvety finish. It's not like other Jamaican rums, and that's cool, it's kind of a new interpretation of that island's spirit, and that's made for, well, people who like rum. And it's the best for 2018.
